The Institute of Police Technology and Management established a Computer Section in 1983 for the purpose of providing
police administrators and personnel with the skills necessary to use this relatively low-cost management tool.
The IPTM computer staff has developed a variety of software products for use in the criminal justice field. These products
include police records management systems, a computer-aided dispatch system, a drug/intelligence system, a training records
management system, a traffic records management system and a police internal affairs system.
