Child Fatality Investigations
|
|
With the creation of Child Fatality Prevention and Review Teams across the country, the investigations of injury to or death of a child have taken on a whole new meaning. The responsibilities of the individual agencies, including how they conduct investigations and how they interact with other agencies, is under scrutiny.
The purpose of this course is to train state and local agencies in conducting thorough and appropriate child death investigations. The topics presented will not only address multidisciplinary approaches to these types of investigations, but will also identify gaps in the systems designed to protect children and will aid in the development of policies and protocols for child death investigations.
Topics include: • Trends in child fatalities • Manners of death • Multidisciplinary approaches • Analysis of existing protocols and policies related to child fatalities • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome • Deaths of children with special needs • Abuse and neglect • Interpretation of injuries
The two-day course covers each area in great detail and includes case examples and analyses.
