The Institute of Police Technology and
Management established a Computer Section in 1983 for the purpose of providing
police administrators and personnel with the skills necessary to use this
relatively low-cost management tool. The IPTM computer staff develops a
variety of software products for use in the criminal justice field. These
products include police management information systems, a computer-aided
dispatch system, a drug/intelligence system, a traffic records management system
and a police internal affairs package.
IPTM houses a state of the art computer lab used solely for training IPTM
students in applying the use of commercial software in the police environment,
with emphasis placed on using law enforcement related databases.
More than 600 agencies nationwide and abroad are presently using one or
more of IPTM's computer software packages.
