Crash Testing:
Jersey Barrier Crash Testing - John Daily / Nate Shigemura / Russell Strickland /
David Brill
The goals of our crash tests this year are
to conduct a detailed energy analysis in comparison to the airbag control module
data as well as to examine the displacement and change in velocity of the Jersey
barrier itself. We will perform an
offset end collision, a full frontal impact collision, and a collision which
will be set at a pre-determined angle to look at deflection angles.
Examining Motorcycle Lateral Acceleration, Lean Angles and Rolling Resistance Factors –
Al Baxter / Bill Wright / Neil Robar
Mr. Baxter, Mr. Wright and Mr. Robar will spend the week preceding the conference gathering data on rolling friction from as many motor vehicles, motorcycles and commercial motor vehicles as possible. Vehicle specifications, transmission, gear position and wind resistance will be analyzed to determine a reasonable range of rolling friction values based upon a varying degree of circumstances. They will also conduct a detailed examination of motorcycle lane change maneuvers using an inexperienced rider on an instrumented vehicle to determine a reasonable range of lateral acceleration values in comparison to motorcycle lean angles.
Lamp Analysis
– Tony Becker / David McClenahan / Kevin Bedsworth
Mr. Becker, Mr. McClenahan and Mr. Bedsworth
will fit crash vehicles with light arrays which have current technology lamps
attached to them. The goal of this
session is to obtain up-to-date data on filament acceleration.
