Inspection of Motorcycles After Impact by Neil F
Inspection
of Motorcycles After Impact
by Neil F. Robar
Due to the unique nature of motorcycle crashes, it is the
motorcycle itself that often holds the clues as to why the crash happened. Many
scenes lack marks on the roadway or witnesses who can aid in the reconstruction
process.
In his book, Inspection of Motorcycles After Impact,
Neil Robar describes the components of a motorcycle and shows you which defects,
malfunctions and faulty adjustments to look for so that more accurate and
comprehensive investigations can be made. He also makes you aware of the impact
damage certain components may sustain and what this damage can reveal about the
collision.
Mr. Robar includes the following topics, which are further
subdivided into numerous sections:
- Photo Evidence
- Front End Assembly
- Rear Section of the Motorcycle
- Center of Motorcycle
- Accessories and Miscellaneous Items
The book also contains four forms that can be photocopied
as needed that will be useful in the inspection of motorcycles:
- Motorcycle Dimension Sheet
- Motorcycle Damage Severity and Location Profiles
- Photo Log
- Accident-Involved-Motorcycle Inspection Checklist
Neil Robar retired at the rank of lieutenant from the
Hollywood (Florida) Police Department, where he either commanded or worked in
every division and unit. For five years he was the coordinator of IPTM’s
Traffic Crash Investigation and Reconstruction section. Mr. Robar is now a
private consultant in traffic crash investigation and reconstruction and
continues to teach at all levels in the area as an adjunct for IPTM.
