Photographing Vehicles for Litigation by Jack Murray

Photographing Vehicles for Litigation
by Jack Murray, CLI, CFE

The author has written this text to give you a better understanding of how to photograph a vehicle that has been involved in a collision. He discusses the angles from which to take the picture as well as lighting conditions and the types of equipment to use to get a high quality photograph. He points out mistakes to avoid while emphasizing the fact that to get the best results, you must understand what you are ultimately trying to show with the picture.

The book is an excellent source of photographic information for police, private investigators, attorneys and insurance claims adjustors. It covers the main considerations of phototaking for courtroom use and contains many procedures and tips that are useful in crash photography regardless of whether the photo is shown in court or not.

The book includes chapters on the following:

  • Exterior Photos
  • Interior Photos
  • Bumpers
  • Trace Evidence
  • Courtroom Presentation
  • Equipment
  • Resources

Jack Murray holds an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He received formal training in crash reconstruction and has been called to give expert testimony in numerous cases. He is listed in Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in American Law. He is a certified instructor by both the Texas Board of Private Investigators and the Texas Insurance Board.
