Successful Recruitment and Retention of
Police Officers:
A Guide for Public Safety Managers
by Floyd S. Hulsey
In today’s competitive job market, hiring qualified
applicants often poses a major headache for the Police Supervisor. No longer can
managers expect to fill a vacancy by simply placing an ad in the local
newspaper. Recruitment methods today must be much more aggressive.
In light of this, Floyd Hulsey has written this book to
help you attract the most qualified candidates to your agency. In it, you will
find a wealth of information on both traditional and creative ways to recruit
qualified applicants, how to improve the speed of the hiring process and how to
market the benefits your agency can provide to potential employees.
This book is abundant in practical and economical methods
that can be used immediately by your Police Recruiter, such as establishing an
employee referral program and equipping your recruiter with the newest equipment
available in order to present the most positive image possible. The author’s
advice holds true for agencies of any size, regardless of their geographic
location.
Mr. Hulsey has organized all of his recruiting methods in
the following chapters:
- Plan Strategically
- Newspapers Still Popular
