The FLSA
The FLSA - A User’s Manual
(Fourth Edition)
A Practical, Common-Scense Guide to the Nation's Wage
and Hour Law
by Will Aitchison
If you have ever wondered how the Fair Labor Standards Act -- our country’s
basic wage and hour law -- applies in your workplace, then the 4th edition of The
FLSA - A User’s Manual will help answer your questions. The comprehensive text,
written by Will Aitchinson, covers the FLSA from its creation in 1938 to the changes
made in 2004 that exempt executive, administrative or professional employees from
overtime provisions.
You’ll find information pertaining to how employers are liable
for the time their employees work, rules for compensatory time off in the public
and private sector, what sort of time constitutes hours worked for overtime purposes
and how to calculate overtime pay. The author also reviews the minimum wage and
child labor provisions, explains what records an employer is required to keep, and
discusses the types of “liquidated damages” employees can receive in FLSA lawsuits.
Mr. Aitchison includes a list of internet resources as well as the complete text
of the FLSA as found in Title 29 of the United States Code. The book is accompanied
by a CD-Rom that contains the complete text of the FLSA, the new regulations and
hundreds of important FLSA court cases.
