The Rights of Law Enforcement Officers
(6th Edition)
by Will Aitchison
Extensively revised in 2009, The Rights of Law Enforcement
Officers is a comprehensive review of the rights officers possess, most of
which are often misunderstood or sporadically applied. Now in its 6th edition,
this book contains numerous changes from previous editions, including references
to hundreds of new cases decided in the last five years.
You will find updates in the areas of freedom of speech,
Garrity and Weingarten rules, discrimination laws, the legality of
videotaping, religious freedom and more. The author expands on the freedom of
association, focusing on “association with criminals” rules as well as the
ability of employers to monitor and regulate an officer’s off-duty
relationships. There has also been a substantial revision of the laws of
discrimination, including reverse discrimination and hostile work environment.
Supporting case law and statutory citations make this an
excellent reference tool for both police departments and attorneys. This edition
also includes a CD-Rom that contains the complete text of the book, over 600
court decisions and more than a dozen state peace officer Bill of Rights.
The book includes the following chapters:
- Law Enforcement Officers and Collective Bargaining
